Montreal Art & Noise Scene Featured on Fingered Dvdzine Winter/Spring 2008 Issue The release of Fingered Dvdzine's fourth issue marks the completion of the video magazine's initial survey of North American art scenes by heading north to Montreal and hanging out with design duo, Seripop, and the tight community of artists that surrounds them. Through interview and a visit to their shared studio space, the disc offers a personal document of their prolific creative process and development. Video of live performances from their band, AIDS Wolf, as well as other Montreal noisemakers, Dreamcatcher and Panopticon Eyelids, feature in other sections of the dvd, while slideshows present paintings, photographs, and prints from an impressive group of young and emerging artists, including David Lafrance, Natalile Reis, and Jacinthe Loranger. The disc closes with a short film made by rising art star Dandi Wind in collaboration with photographer/filmmaker John Londono. The official release will be held at the Drawn & Quarterly bookstore in Montreal on Sunday, March 16th, followed on March 29th with a release party at the Fingered Gallery space in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Artwork and performances from featured artists will accompany screenings of the new dvd. A limited edition of 200 discs will be sold at independent bookstores, record shops, and art spaces around the world. Fingered Dvdzine Goes International with ‘Summer/Fall 2007 Issue’ Covering Mexico’s Exploding Art and Music Scene Shifting to a more art-heavy offering, Fingered Dvdzine’s new release presents a virtual who’s who of the new Mexican art world, showcasing the work of eight exciting artists alongside videos for unreleased songs by three of Mexico’s indie rock favorites. Mexico City’s Los Fancy Free start the disc off with a track from their upcoming album, . Edited to live performance footage mixed with shots captured during practice, the chorus builds to the screaming mantra, “Mainstream = Boring!” Next is a video tour of Marco Rountree’s first solo exhibition held earlier this year at the gallery, Proyectos Monclova. The paintings, drawings, photos, and clothing designs of the artists Balam Bartolome, Amor Munoz, Gustavo Abascal, Nacho Chincoya, and Jose Luis Rojas are all presented in slideshow format, accompanied by musical selections by Seekers Who Are Lovers, Evil Hippie, and Jose Luis Rojas, aka Pastiche. The dvd also includes three short animations by Marcos Castro, videos for the bubble-gum synth of Post-Pastel and electro-punk of Mexicali’s Maniqui Lazer, and the hypnotic video art of Ruben Gutierrez. The Fingered Dvdzine Summer/Fall 2007 Release Party will be at The GlassLands Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Saturday, September 15th. The event is a part of the Celebrate Mexico Now festival and will feature performances by the bands Evil Hippie and Fingered Dvdzine Release Party Fingered Dvdzine Releases ‘Winter/Spring 2007 Issue’ Featuring Erase Errata and fellow Bay Area Acts and Artists Opening with a kinetic video capturing Erase Errata’s performance of their song, “Another Genius Idea from Our Government,” the second offering from Fingered Dvdzine seeks to focus attention on the activities of the ever-fertile artistic community in the San Francisco Bay Area. A video tour diary put together from self-shot footage from their 2003-04 U.S. and European tour, gives a candid, and often hilarious glimpse at Erase Errata’s original four on and offstage. The disc also features performances by the band’s friends and cohorts Fuckwolf, Black Fiction, Clipd Beaks, and Tussle, who, like E.E. have undergone recent line-up shuffling and a revamped sound. Along with the band videos, the dvdzine presents the work of visual artists Olivia Park, Joe Roberts (aka Krak!), and Clipd Beaks bandmates, Nic Barbeln and Greg Prichard. Fingered Dvdzine provides a unique look at leading creative voices and a medium for new and emerging artists in their hometown to reach out to audiences around the world. The previous issue documented the artistic output coming from Brooklyn, New York, highlighting such bands as Excepter, Mazing Vids, and Telepathe. Fingered will move beyond U.S. borders with the Mexico City issue next summer, followed by Montreal early next year. Fingered Dvdzine’s First Issue Spotlights Excepter and Surrounding Artist Community in Brooklyn The release of Fingered Dvdzine’s first issue marks the beginning of a series of discs dedicated to exposing and promoting the art and music communities within the United States and beyond. The centerpiece of the first Fingered is the Bushwick-based band, Excepter, and features a performance from their home studio, an interview with band member, John Fell Ryan, and the video of a live track off their most recent album. Excepter also assisted with curatorial duties, helping to select lesser known bands and artists in their community. The dvd includes the bands Mazing Vids, Jaws, Telepathe, and Imaginary People, as well as visual artists Julie Benoit, Ted McGrath, and Ihrie Means. All are artists who, as Ryan explains, are creating work that expresses and complements the kind of lives that they’ve chosen to live. Fingered Dvdzine is the culmination of artist Harrison Owen’s longtime hobby of shooting his favorite band’s live shows and editing together videos to share with the bands and his friends. After moving to New York in 2001 and acquiring the first version of Apple’s Dvd Studio Pro, he began compiling the videos, along with his friend’s artwork and photographs, and handing them out in small runs. These early discs included videos of Black Dice and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, along with bands from outside of New York like D.C.’s Antelope and Oakland’s Erase Errata. About Fingered Media Inc. Fingered Media, Inc. was formed at the beginning of 2006 to produce the video magazine, Fingered Dvdzine, to assist and collaborate with artists and musicians on video projects, and to help create and foster a positive, enlightened, and community-based culture. |
